Sacramento Self-Help Housing Receives $10,000 Grant From Century Housing toward Goal of $300,000 To Establish Reimbursement Revolving Fund
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 25, 2016) – Dedicated to the elimination of homelessness based on the “housing first” model, Sacramento Self-Help Housing has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Century Housing. With a goal to raise $300,000 in charitable grant funding, Sacramento Self-Help Housing will use this grant to start an internal revolving fund that will allow for prompt payment of housing lease and service costs eligible for later reimbursement by public and private agencies.
Founded in 2000, Sacramento Self-Help Housing assists local homeless individuals and families – or those at risk of becoming homeless – to find and retain stable, affordable and permanent housing. In 2015 alone, Sacramento Self-Help Housing served 12,578 deserving individuals through their various housing programs.
“The Century Housing grant is an important first step to help grow our housing programs and allow us the opportunity to serve more homeless families and individuals,” said John Foley, Executive Director of Sacramento Self-Help Housing. “Our programs include direct provision of over 150 bedrooms of shared housing, housing counseling, referrals services for veterans in crisis, tenant/landlord helpline, and Fair Housing Partnerships, and more.”
Having an internal revolving fund in place will allow Sacramento Self-Help Housing to operate in a more fiscally responsible manner by reducing needless administrative and carrying costs. In fact, an internal revolving fund would save the organization an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 per year that could instead directly support local individuals and families in need.
“Century is pleased to award Sacramento Self-Help Housing with a grant to address the acute housing crisis in Sacramento and throughout the State of California,” said Ronald Griffith, President & CEO of Century Housing. “Their cost-effective model provides critically needed shelter in dire times and avoids significant delays related to new construction.”
